FAQ
Everything you want to know about requirements, pricing, privacy, and how it all works.
Rhymes with "free" — it's how I pronounce BYOUI (Build Your Own UI).
Build Your Own UI. Instead of conforming to a fixed interface, you describe what you need and claude builds a custom UI for you. Every tool is shaped around your workflow, not the other way around.
People who care about their tools and want to improve their workflows. Developers can build their own GitHub, product managers can build their own Jira, marketers can build their own analytics dashboard.
Bwee is also useful for those less opinionated — robust task management and a markdown editor makes managing sessions seamless, enabling you to focus on building.
Anything you'd ask claude to do — except now it gets a real UI. I've personally built expense trackers, trip planners, inbox triage dashboards, flight-status boards, code review tools, and more. Describe what you want in plain language and claude builds it.
Each tool runs natively on your Mac with full access to your local files and environment — no sandboxed web app limitations.
When you're chatting with claude in Bwee, it can build a UI right next to the terminal. These are called views — interactive interfaces that appear side-by-side with your conversation. A view might be a chart of your spending, a map of your trip itinerary, or a diff of your code changes.
Views persist with the task. Close and reopen it next week — the view is still there, exactly as you left it.
Yes. Bwee is a native Mac app that wraps Claude Code in a rich interface with persistent tasks and custom views. Bwee wraps claude — it doesn't replace it.
You don't need to install claude yourself — Bwee will walk you through setting it up on first launch. All you need is a subscription.
Bwee itself is free to download and use. You pay Anthropic for claude usage through your existing subscription (Pro, Max, or API) — Bwee doesn't add any fees on top.
You need an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or newer, and a subscription (Pro, Max, or API). Bwee will walk you through installing claude if you don't have it yet.
Not yet, but it's coming. Bwee currently runs on Apple silicon Macs (M1 and newer) with macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel Mac support is on the roadmap.
Not right now — Bwee is Mac-only. We're focused on making the Mac experience great first.
Bwee is local-first. Your files, sessions, and generated views all live on your Mac — nothing is sent to Bwee's servers because there aren't any. The only network traffic is between claude and Anthropic's API, exactly the same as running claude in your terminal.
Bwee can't see your API key, your conversation history, or the files claude reads. It's a shell around the process, not a proxy.
Yes — never lose a claude session again. Every task in Bwee keeps its session and any views that were created. Close the app, reopen it days later, click the task — you're right back where you left off. Sessions are stored locally in a SQLite database on your Mac.
Claude Desktop is great, but it splits functionality across Web, Cowork, and Code. Bwee is built around parallelizing work — keyboard shortcuts let you flip between tasks instantly, and each task keeps its own session and views. It's a workspace designed for getting things done, not switching between modes.
Partially. The app itself launches fine offline, and you can browse your existing tasks and views. But starting a new conversation or continuing one requires an internet connection — claude needs to reach Anthropic's API to work.
